Smart Growth and Housing

Revealing housing and community preferences nationally:

BRS research for the National Association of Realtors has periodically registered Americans’ preferences regarding the communities in which they live as well as the types of housing they seek. The research covered characteristics consumers look for in a community, the reality of their current communities, and what policies they would support to improve their communities in the future.

Changing the mortgage interest deduction:

Our research for the National Low Income Housing Coalition in 2011 and 2012 indicates support for changing the mortgage interest deduction to benefit middle-income homeowners, and has helped NLIHC communicate with Members of Congress regarding change the MID and devoting more resources to affordable housing for low-income and homeless people.

Testing smart growth strategies:

BRS' strategic surveys and focus groups have guided communications on smart growth and sprawl for The National Trust for Historic Preservation and Smart Growth America, a coalition of over sixty environmental, transportation, urban planning and other organizations offering smart growth solutions for land use nation-wide.
